1988 Lincoln Town Car
Fresh off of another 1500 mile road trip, this eye catcher has a 5.0 ltr 4-speed automatic transmission. Chassis has 115,000 miles but the motor and transmission have a very different story to tell. The transmission has 10,000 miles and motor has 14,000 miles. There’s paperwork. Just not worth the trouble getting. Let me explain. This vehicle was purchased at auction a few years ago and before driving it the 200 miles from Aberdeen to Bismarck, we stopped by the local auto repair shop called Gelling’s (oil change sticker in the window) and got the full back story. Apparently, the local veterinarian (previous owner of this sweet ride) only took this vehicle to the dealership for repairs and all of the service work. Mr. Gelling worked for the dealership and personally replaced the transmission and engine before it closed in 2008 and before starting his shop, so naturally “Doc” continued using Gelling for all of his repairs. Wouldn’t ya know it but a few minutes into our visit with Mr. Gelling, Doc walked in once he noticed his Lincoln parked outside. Doc, who purchased the car in 1991 or 1992, explained the new tranny and motor and how his ex-wife had all the paperwork locked in his former desk in his former house and that he’d sooner drive the car off a cliff than ask her for the paperwork. Understood. Loud and clear, Doc. So, this “comfy as a leather couch interior” has taken us confidently through the Black Hills of South Dakota, over the rolling fields of Iowa, and really all across the Midwest for thousands of miles in style.
