EARLY NORTH DAKOTA ROAD SIGN

North Dakota first introduced its iconic square embossed Indian Head state highway route markers in 1923 and were widely used by 1931.  The profile used was that of Marcellus Red Tomahawk as a tribute to the states early indigenous peopleand had the route number superimposed in the center of the design.

During its use, these signs were often returned to the state DOT for restoration when they became badly weathered. This particular sign was all white when I bought it and I had a local artist apply the black coloring to exact specifications.

These classic embossed signs are exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors. Guaranteed to be old and original!
